The CSY 44 Walk-Through Design: An Evolution

There were only 42 CSY 44 WT’s built. This new WT design was a response to buyers who wanted same legendary construction and features, but with a layout that was more inclusive for the crew below, in contrast to the immensely popular CSY44 Walk-Over, which was optimized for the comfort and privacy of two separate couples sailing under charter.

NOTE: WHILE IN SAN FRANCISCO, WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE FACT THAT WE HAD TO TAKE THE MAST DOWN TO TRANSPORT THE BOAT OVER LAND FROM FL TO CA. WE DECIDED TO CUT THE MAST HEIGHT BY 18″ BEFORE WE REINSTALLED IT. THE BEST DECISION WE EVER MADE. AND NO CHANGES TO THE RIGGING SPREADERS OR GEOMETRY, JUST HAD TO REDUCE THE LENGTH OF THE FORESTAY AND BACKSTAY. NOW WE CAN GO UP AND DOWN THE INTRACOASTAL AND HANDLE ALL FIXED BRIDGES THAT HAVE A NOMINAL 65′ HEIGHT.

As previously pointed out, the CSY Corporation decided to build the walk-thru version of its very popular CSY 44 late in the game. Its “walk-over” version, seen on the left,  had been very successful, particularly when chartering for two couples. Each couple would have a very private portion of the boat for themselves. CSY designed and built the Walk-Thru version to respond to customer demand (see brochure above). When CSY closed its doors, the Coates brothers purchased the molds for the CSY 44 walk-thru, and built the Antigua 44, which was very similar to the original CSY 44 walk-thru (seen on the right).
